HUNTINGTON, Ind. – The Huntington University Athletic Department announced its Athlete of the Week for the week of January 5, 2015. Men’s basketball sophomore Derek Hinen earned the honor for his outstanding effort this past weekend. 

It was a season-best day for Hinen as he poured in 27 points in Huntington’s 85-80 win over Taylor University on Saturday afternoon at Platt Arena. Down by 14 points at the 9:10 mark of the second half, the Foresters mounted an impressive comeback with Hinen spearheading the rally by dropping in 13 points and handing out five assists in that last nine minutes.

In addition to his 27 points, the 6-3 point guard also finished with nine assists while committing only one turnover in nearly 39 minutes of action. To date, Hinen is averaging five assists per outing which places him 21st in NAIA Division II in assists per game.

The Huntington University Foresters compete in 16 intercollegiate sports for men and women.
