GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Forester cross country teams opened up their season over the weekend at the Calvin College Knight Invitational. The HU women finished 12th out of 25 teams while the men finished 18th out of 28 teams.

In the women’s 5K, freshman Aspen Dirr paced HU by clocking in at 19:05 to finish 35th out of 319 runners. Hannah Moore posted a time of 19:32 good for 55th place. Christine Sparks crossed the line in 19:46 to place 68th. Krista Wood ran a 20:24 for 99th place and Rosie Ditzler rounded out Huntington’s scoring with her 107th finish in 20:37.

Other HU runners included Cassidy Johnson (145th, 22:19) and Rachael Smelser (153rd, 22:51).

After sitting out last year due to injury, Tyler Herber splashed back onto the scene by leading the Foresters in the men’s 8K. The senior finished in 26:19 to place 42nd out of 355 runners. Twelve seconds later, Austin Presnell posted a 26:31 to claim 49th place. Zach McIntyre finished 103rd in 27:39, Codi Wiersema clocked in at 28:07 for 118th place and Kevin Moser rounded out the scoring with a 28:17 as the 124th runner to cross the line.

Other Huntington runners included Daniel Perry (134th, 28:39), CJ Robertson (144th, 29:04) and Stephen Kays (29:07).

HU is back in action on Friday when they compete in the Indiana Intercollegiates at Indiana State University.
