FORT WAYNE, Ind. – After shooting a 363 at their own HU Spring Invitational on Thursday at Brookwood Golf Club, the Forester women’s golf team bounced back by firing a 348 on Friday to claim third out of four teams with a 711.

Leah Thompson paced Huntington with a 168 (85, 83) to finish sixth overall. Betsy Schroeder came in second for Coach Schownir by carding a 176 (91, 85) for 11th place. Rachel Blauert turned in a 180 (93, 87) good for 13th while Sophie Frazier posted a 187 (94, 93) for 16th. Other scores for HU included Sarah Scott (99-107—206), Alayna Steely (115-104—219) and Reily Vore (115-116—231).

I was very happy for the team,” said Schownir. “This was by far the lowest score of the spring season and our fourth lowest of the 2016-17 year. Improving 15 shots from Thursday was huge.

“Leah Thompson played very consistently and pretty much everyone had their lowest round of the spring or improved from the last tournament. We have to remember there are three freshman and two sophomores in the starting five so they are learning a lot through these experiences.”

Taylor University won the invitational with a 643 followed by Mount Vernon (709), HU (711) and Grace B (827).

HU is back in action on April 21-22 to compete in Rumble at the Rock hosted by Indiana Wesleyan.
