PIERSON, Mich. - The Forester golf team headed up north to play in Calvin College’s Knight Invitational on Tuesday at Pilgrim’s Run Golf Club where they finished sixth out of nine teams.

As a team, HU shot 330 with senior Lance Hoch leading the pack with a 79 (42, 37) which landed him tied for seventh overall. Ryan Boester (40, 44), Devin Dale (40, 44) and Derek Zurcher (39, 45) each carded an 84. Zach Borntreger posted a 90 (45, 45) and playing as an individual, Zach Herber played within a stroke of that to finish with a 91 (43, 48).

“Despite the worst conditions I have ever experienced during a golf tournament, I thought the guys adapted well and kept their patience,” said Coach Schownir. “Everyone had a couple of bad holes that prevented us from placing in the top half of the field. Pilgrim’s Run was an unfamiliar course to us and can be punishing if you find the wrong places.”

The Foresters had to battle the weather all day as they faced 30 degree temperatures with occasional rain, snow, sleet and wind gusts up to 40 MPH.

Grand Rapids Community College topped the field with a 316 followed by Calvin (317), Trine (318), Davenport (324), Rochester (329), HU (330), Cornerstone (338), Hope (341) and Aquinas (350).

The Foresters will host their own invitational this weekend at Rock Hollow Golf Club.
