PERU, Ind. – Sophomore Cale Carr fired a one-over-par 145 (75, 70) at HU’s Forester Fall Classic to claim 2nd out of 59 golfers and guide his team to a sixth place finish out of ten teams in Huntington’s first outing of 2016.

“Carr has been focused and determined since arriving on campus and it showed this weekend,” noted Coach Rick Sholund. “He had it five under in round two when a couple mistakes cost him a bit on his way to a 70 and second place finish.”

Logan DeMaa tied for 16th with a 157 (76, 81). In his first collegiate match, Nate Mynatt carded a 163 (79, 84) good for a share of 34th. Luis Esteban (86, 80) and Zak Cummings (81, 85), also rookies for Coach Sholund, finished three strokes back from Mynatt with a 166 to claim a piece of 39th place.

Other scores for Huntington included Otto Bjartmarz with a 171 (80, 91) and Zach Borntreger with a 177 (82, 95).

“This was a positive start for our young team to begin the season,” said Sholund. “We did a good job putting ourselves in position to compete with some really strong teams and that is what we are striving for.

“I thought they fought through some adverse conditions today without letting it get the best of them. Coach Scott, Colon and I are excited to watch these guys mature as a team throughout the season.”

As a group, HU shot a 627 (312, 315) over the two-day event at Rock Hollow Golf Club.

Taylor University topped the Classic with a 601 followed by Saint Francis (608), Taylor B (610), Indiana Wesleyan (617), Grace (625), HU (627), Holy Cross (629), IU South Bend (645), IU Kokomo (652) and IU Northwest (662).

Next up for the Foresters is the Spring Arbor University Fall Classic on September 19.
