MORAVIA, Iowa It was an impressive season opener for the Forester golf team as they shot a 606 at the Midwest Collegiate Championship to bring home the title. Lance Hoch led the charge by shooting a three-over-par 147. After shooting a 75 on day one, the Marion native shot even par on Tuesday to finish tied for 5th out of 49 golfers.

Ryan Boester was a picture of consistency, posting a 75 both days to finish with a six-over 150 for 10th place. Devin Dale carded a 154 (73, 81) to slide in at 18th while Derek Zurcher finished one place behind him by shooting a 155 (75, 80). Zach Borntreger (82, 87) rounded out HU's scoring with a 169 in his first outing as a Forester.

Huntington shot a 298 on Monday to carry a two stroke advantage into the final round where they shot a 308 under adverse weather conditions to hang on for the win. Graceland finished second with a 608 followed by Central A (611), William Penn (613), Iowa Central (623), William Penn B (626), North Iowa Area CC (629) Central B (636) and Iowa Wesleyan (648).

"It's great to start off the season with a win," said Coach Mark Green. "I am happy for the guys and how they played. Hopefully this momentum carries over to the weekend as we head to the Bethel Invitational in South Bend.

"I felt like our practice round Sunday was one of the best I've ever seen as a coach. The guys were definitely prepared, even through the tough rainy and windy conditions of the finishing holes."

William Penn hosted the invitational at The Preserve on Rathbun Lake Golf Course in Moravia, Iowa. The Foresters hit the links again on September 12-13 to compete in Bethel College's Battle at Blackthorn.
