KOHLER, Wis. - The HU men’s golf team wrapped its fall season with a 17th place finish at the Whistling Straits Intercollegiate hosted by Taylor University earlier this week. The Foresters fired a 321 on Monday and followed up with a 340 on Tuesday to start and end in the 17th spot out of 20 teams.

“This was a very strong field and an excellent opportunity for us to see where we stand competitively,” said Coach Sholund. “Overall, it was not a strong result for us but there were many positives we can take from it.”

HU was led by Luis Esteban who posted a 155 (77, 78) for 24th overall out of 100 golfers. Cale Carr turned in a 166 (76, 90) for 65th place. Andrew Weisheit carded a 169 (85, 84) for the 76th spot. Zakry Cummings finished 84th with a 172 (84, 88) while Chandler Rang scored a 175 (84, 91) to finish 91st.

Coach Sholund is optimistic about his group of guys. “I think a course as tough as Whistling Straits with the 25-35mph winds in which they played on Tuesday will reveal a player’s strengths and weaknesses. It did that for us this week and that is what we will focus on learning from. We have certainly showed growth this fall as a program and we are now ready to work hard in the off-season to continue that improvement.”

Texas Wesleyan took home the title with a 585 followed by UNOH (601), Northern Michigan (608), Taylor (618), Viterbo (620), Cardinal Stritch (621), Grand View (622), Embry-Riddle (623), Georgetown (625), Indiana Tech (629), Saint Francis (633), Holy Cross (635), Sterling (647), Central (650), Parkside (654), Grace (654), HU (661), Roosevelt (661), St. Xavier (678) and Concordia (706).
