HUNTINGTON, Ind. - The Huntington University baseball team (33-11) learned this afternoon that they will be packing their bags for Montgomery, Alabama at Faulkner University’s Harrison Field to compete in the 2017 NAIA National Championship Opening Round slated for May 15-18.

As the Crossroads League champions, HU received the conference’s first automatic bid to compete in the tournament, the program’s third-ever berth to the big dance.

The format for the opening round is a double-elimination, five-team tournament at each of the nine host sites. The nine winners from each site will punch their ticket to the 61st Annual Avista-NAIA World Series in Lewiston, Idaho from May 26 to June 2.

Huntington received the No. 3 seed and will face 2nd-seeded St. Thomas University (35-17) in game two on Monday. Opening pitch is slated for 3:30 p.m. CDT.
