FORT WAYNE, Ind. – Splitting their time at Autumn Ridge and Cherry Hill Golf Clubs over the weekend, the Huntington men’s golf team posted a 657 (326, 331) to finish ninth out of ten teams at the University of Saint Francis Cougar Spring Invitational.

While it wasn’t the performance Coach Rick Sholund was hoping for, he remains positive about his team’s ability to bounce back. “It was a challenge for us this weekend. We have struggled this spring and have allowed that to impact our confidence.

“They are competing hard and I am proud of them for the fight they show. As we work on fundamentals and decision making in practice, we can turn this around heading into the conference tournament.”

Luis Esteban topped the Foresters with a 160 (82, 78) to finish 32nd out of 65 golfers. Cale Carr fired a 162 (79, 83) to claim 37th. Zach Borntreger (83, 84—167) and Zak Cummings (82-86—168) shot within a stroke of each other to finish 46th and 47th respectively while Chandler Rang rounded out HU’s scores with a 178 (90, 88).

Madonna claimed the men’s title by posting a 590 followed by IWU (602), Olivet Nazarene (614), Saint Francis (615), Spring Arbor (627), Grace (630), Indiana Tech (632), Trine (651), HU (657) and Concordia (658).

The Foresters will host their own spring invitational at Brookwood on April 13-14.
