HUNTINGTON, Ind. – The Forester women’s basketball team (11-11, 5-6) overwhelmed Bethel College (6-17, 3-8) Wednesday night at Platt Arena to tally their second win over the Lady Pilots this season. After enjoying a 62-52 win back in November, HU made sure tonight’s W was even more decisive by handing BC a 78-57 decision.

Huntington wasted little time establishing their dominance as their only deficit of the night came early in the contest when they trailed 6-5. While it was relatively slow going for both teams up to that point, Sarah Fryman got the Foresters on track with a pair of freebies midway through the quarter for a 7-6 advantage.

The 5-9 forward scored her team’s first seven points after which she handed off the baton to her teammates who pieced together a 10-2 run to close out the frame for a 17-8 tilt after the first ten minutes.

While the second quarter was Bethel’s most productive offensive ten-minute segment, HU continued to build on their lead compliments of Brooke Saylor. The Marion native ended the first quarter with an old fashioned three point play and scored HU’s first six points of the second to guide her team to a 38-26 advantage by halftime.

Saylor and Fryman each finished with 11 points in the period to go along with four boards apiece.

The final 20 minutes proved to be even friendlier to the Foresters as they missed just nine shots to extend their lead to 27 before settling for the 21-point victory. Miranda Palmer took matters into her own hands to make sure that was the case. After scoring just three points in the opening stanza, she erupted for 21 of her team’s 40 points in the second half which included a crowd-pleasing buzzer-beater to end the third. She finished with 24 points and a season-tying seven assists.

Saylor tied her career-best with 17 points to go along with a team-best six rebounds. Fryman also had a banner night by finishing with a career-high 15 points and four assists.

Coach Culler’s crew finished 31-for-54 from the field for 57.4 percent which included knocking down nine triples. They were also a perfect 7-for-7 from the charity stripe. Key to HU’s offensive success was converting 24 Bethel miscues into 23 points.

The Pilots were led by Savannah Bley’s 18 points and seven boards. Kamala Glenn and Madison Schrock each chipped in 13 points.

During Culler’s tenure, the Foresters have posted 44 wins over the Pilots to just 26 losses.

HU will take a two-game win streak into Saturday’s game at Spring Arbor.
