MARION, Ind. - The Huntington volleyball team got off to a great start against #RV Indiana Wesleyan University (22-8, 15-3) Wednesday night before suffering a 3-1 loss, 20-25, 25-19, 25-21, 25-18, to the Wildcats at Luckey Arena. The loss is HU’s second to IWU this year as they drop to 12-18 overall, 6-9 in league play.

The first set featured ten ties but the Foresters never trailed for the convincing five-point win. While the Wildcats won the next three, HU kept it close the rest of the way as the match featured 17 more ties and five lead changes.

“We came out great,” said Coach Shondell. “Truthfully, we were the better team at the start and end of each set. We just let our foot off the gas a few too many times.”

Lauren Cresse and Danielle Gurwell carried the Foresters offensively with 11 and ten kills respectively. Jenna Tacosik dished out a game-high 37 assists to go along with three kills, ten digs and her team’s only ace.

Kate Cobb tallied a game-best 26 digs while Emily Hubby registered 15 and Ariene Butler posted 14. At the net defensively, Cresse and Josie Beaver shared game-high blocking honors with 2.5 each. As a team, the Foresters out-blocked their hosts 10-6.

“Lauren was tremendous tonight,” said Shondell. “To have a match like that on a stage like that just shows you who she is and where she’s going.

With three regular season matches remaining, Shondell is pleased with where his team is headed. “The way we are starting to play is more than encouraging going into the home stretch of the season.”

Huntington will look to snap their four-game skid on Friday’s senior night at Platt Arena against Mount Vernon at 7:00 p.m.
