FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Forester volleyball team made quick work of the Cougars of Saint Francis University Friday night at Hutzell Athletic Center by sweeping their hosts, 25-18, 25-23, 25-9, for their third conference win of the year. HU improves to 7-6 overall, 3-3 in league play.

Audrey Mallers led a balanced attack for HU with a match-high 13 kills. Josie Beaver and Tailor Schultheis added seven apiece while Ashli Drewes tallied six. Breanna Levings and Emily Hubby kept it mixed up by dishing out 21 and ten assists respectively.

“Audrey continues to lead us offensively; when she steps up her game and scores the way she does, it becomes so much easier for the rest of the team to do the same,” said Coach Kyle Shondell. “Our setters also did an excellent job of keeping our offense relatively diverse. Bre was as good as she has even been.”

The Foresters committed just ten hitting miscues to make for a well-executed offense and a .269 hitting percentage. USF finished with 26 attacking errors and .082 hitting percentage much to the credit of Huntington’s defense.

Drewes and Beaver were human walls with 3.5 and 3.0 blocks respectively to dominate the net defensively. As a team, HU collected 11 team blocks to keep the Cougars off balance all night.

“Our block was solid tonight and it really forced USF to alter their offense which, in turn, played right into our hands,” said Shondell.

Kate Cobb took charge of the backcourt with 19 digs.

The Foresters square off with Spring Arbor University today at 3:00 p.m.
