MARION, Ind. - Making their debut as the Huntington University women’s golf team, the Foresters competed over the weekend where they placed 12th at the Indiana Wesleyan University Fall Invitational. HU shot an 811 (402, 411).

Freshman Abby Poole quickly established herself as one of the field’s top players by shooting a 162 (83, 79) to finish tied for ninth out of 70 golfers. Hannah Lochner claimed 58th by posting a 203 (95, 108). Sara Scott turned in a 218 (112, 106) while Sophie Frazier (113, 116) and Sara Moloney (112, 127) wrapped up HU’s scoring with a 229 and 239 respectively.  

“This was a good first tournament experience for us,” said head coach Pete Schownir. “I feel there were a lot of positive shots that were played and at the same time a lot of learning lessons that will be applied down the road.”

Olivet Nazarene won the invitational by shooting a 631 followed by Siena Heights (642), Northwestern Ohio (661), Indiana Wesleyan (676), Taylor (676), Cleary (695), Oakland City (726), IU East (727), Spring Arbor (729), Grace (763), Mount Vernon (775) and HU (811).

The Foresters are back at it next weekend when they play in Bethel College’s Battle at Blackthorn on September 11-12.

The Huntington University Foresters compete in 17 intercollegiate sports for men and women. In the past decade, Huntington has produced 39 NAIA All-America honors and 234 All-America Scholar Athlete honors. Huntington University is a comprehensive Christian college of the liberal arts offering graduate and undergraduate programs in more than 70 academic concentrations.
