SUNBURH, Ohio – The HU women’s golf team wrapped up its inaugural season with a ninth place finish at the Crossroads League Championships hosted by Mount Vernon Nazarene University at the NorthStar Golf Club.

After shooting a 402 and 413 on Monday, HU saved their best for last as they shot a season-low 394 in their final 18 holes on Tuesday to finish with a 1209. As has been the case all season, freshman Abby Poole paced the Foresters with a  259 (86, 88, 85) to finish 18th out of 44 golfers.

Sophie Frazier carded a 301 (104, 100, 97) to finish 35th. Hannah Lochner posted a 323 (108, 110, 105) while Sara Scott (104, 115, 107) and Sarah Moloney (117, 127, 12) turned in a 326 and 370 respectively.

Marian stayed atop the leaderboard throughout the tournament to take home the league title with a 965 followed by Bethel (982), Indiana Wesleyan (1019), Saint Francis (1044), Taylor (1050), Grace (1095), Spring Arbor (1126), Mount Vernon (1176) and HU (1209).

“The final round was our best score of the year and I was pleased that it came in the League Tournament,” said Coach Pete Schownir. “Sophie Frazier improved each round and has worked very hard in both the physical and mental sides of the game. For struggling all three rounds, Abby Poole came within five shots of making the All-League Team.

“They and the incoming freshman class should make for big leaps in the program next year.”
