PLYMOUTH, Ind. – Playing in their last invitational of the fall, the HU women’s golf team brought home an 11th place finish at the Swan Lake Intercollegiate hosted by Taylor University over the weekend. Coach Schownir’s squad shot a 358 on Friday before turning in a 346 on Saturday to finish with a 704.

Leah Thompson (87-87—174) and Abby Poole (87-88—175) were pictures of consistency, playing within one stroke of each other to finish 36th and 37th respectively. Betsey Schroeder cared a 178 (98, 80) to claim 46th.

Rachel Blauert fired a 180 (89, 91) for 48th while Alayna Steely finished 68th with a 212 (95, 117) to round out HU’s scoring. Sophie Frazier shot a 194 (91, 103) playing as an individual.

“It was a rough weekend overall,” said Coach Pete Schownir. “Swan Lake Black is an odd course with holes that can jump up and bite hard. Still we had some good things happen. Sophie Frazier had her career low in the first round and Betsy Schroeder came back to knock off 18 strokes from her Friday round to post an 80.

“There were a lot of learning experiences for this young team during the fall and I look back at it as a successful season.”
