Huntington, Ind. ” The Huntington College men’s basketball team will host a boys and girls summer basketball day camp from July 14-18, 2003, in the Merillat Physical Education and Recreation Complex. The camp will be open for boys and girls entering kindergarten through eighth grade.

Steve Platt, head coach of the Huntington College men’s basketball team, will serve as camp director while his son Ty Platt, head coach of the Norwell High School boy’s basketball team, will be the assistant camp director.

Our Forester basketball camp will teach not only the fundamentals, but also stress the importance of old-fashioned hard work while having a lot of fun in a Christ-centered atmosphere, said Steve Platt.

The campers will be given individual instruction by a professional staff of college players, including members of the Forester 2003 National Tournament Elite Eight team. Fundamentals will be taught and stressed through player evaluation and daily games and contests, all within a Christian atmosphere. Each camper will receive a camp t-shirt and the opportunity to receive Huntington College Basketball prizes.

Times and costs of the camp are:

Steve Platt has served as the Huntington College men’s basketball coach for nine seasons, compiling a 199-102 overall record. During that time he has led his teams to three MCC tournament championships, two MCC regular season championships and three national tournament appearances, including one final four appearance, two elite eight appearances and three sweet sixteen appearances. He has coached his athletes to 14 All-American honors, 21 All-MCC honors and four MCC Player of the Year honors. As a player at Huntington College from 1970-1974, Platt was a four-time NAIA All-American and a four-time All-District Player of the Year. He still holds the Indiana Collegiate Scoring record at 3,700 points and was inducted into the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame in 1996, and the NAIA Basketball Hall of Fame in 1987.

Ty Platt has been the Norwell High School boy’s basketball coach for ten years, compiling over 100 wins. He has coordinated and ran numerous basketball camps and has spoken at various camps and clinics. Platt has also seen his share of success as he has won Coach of the Year honors and led his team to a conference title and a sectional title.
