MOUNT VERNON, Ohio – The HU golf men’s team played 36 holes on Saturday to finish with a 49-over-par 625 (312, 313) to finish 5th out of seven teams at the Mount Vernon Nazarene University Spring Cougar Classic at Chapel Hill Golf Course.

Luis Esteban fired a seven-over-par 151 (72, 79) for 16th overall out of 43 golfers. Cale Carr carded a 153 (79, 74) for 22nd place. Zak Cummings finished third for HU by shooting a 158 (78, 80) good for 29th place. Chandler Rang (84-80—164) and Zach Borntreger (83-83—166) were separated by two strokes to round out HU’s scoring, finishing 34th and 36th respectively.   

“Although this was not a good performance for us as a team, the guys competed for all 36 holes and gave great effort today,” said Coach Rick Sholund. “Each one of them has several things he can gain confidence from. We will talk about those things this week at practice as we get ready for our next event.”

Davenport took top honors by posting a 583 followed by IWU (588), Ohio Dominican (597), Mount Vernon (599), HU (625), Carlow (854) and Columbus State CC (forfeit). 

The Foresters are back in action this weekend to complete the Saint Francis Spring Invitational.

The Huntington University Foresters compete in 17 intercollegiate sports for men and women.
