FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The HU men’s golf team had another solid outing over the weekend to finish in a tie for third at the Saint Francis Cougar Fall Invitational. As a team, the Foresters posted a 301 at Autumn Ridge Golf Club on Friday and a 306 at Cherry Hill Golf Club on Saturday to finish with a 31-over-par 607.

Luis Esteban had a breakout weekend to finish second among the field of 67 golfers and earn All-Tournament accolades by firing a four-under-par 140 (70, 70). Cale Carr turned in a 150 (72, 78) to finish tied for 12th. Nate Mynatt posted a 154 (76. 78). Rounding out HU’s scoring was Zak Cummings (83, 80) and Zach Borntreger (95, 81) with a 163 and 176 respectively.

Taylor finished nine strokes ahead of Saint Francis to earn the men’s title with a 579 followed by Saint Francis (588), HU (607), Olivet Nazarene (607), Grace (610), Mount Vernon (621), IU South Bend (625), IU Kokomo (644), Cleary (645), Ancilla (676) and Earlham (717).

“We are very pleased with how well our team has competed these last two events,” said a pleased Coach Rick Sholund. “If they continue to train and compete with a growing focus, the scores will continue to drop.

“We could not be happier to see Luis earn his first All-Tournament honor in just his third collegiate event. He handled this event with the poise of an upperclassman.”

HU will play in Taylor University’ Arnie’s Intercollegiate October 3-4.
