GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Sophomore midfielder Matéa Knispel pounced on a loose ball outside the box just over 30 seconds into the contest to bury a shot into the upper 90 to give the Forester women’s soccer team an early 1-0 advantage over Aquinas College that would stick.

It proved to be HU’s first shutout of the season with Toby Carman earning the clean sheet in goal. The junior keeper tallied seven saves to move to 1-1 on the year.

“We moved the ball extremely well today, especially in the first half,” said Coach Amanda Burge. “Coming out of halftime, Aquinas was fired up so we had to re-get our bearings which we did and made a few substitutions to make sure we had fresh legs.

“We then played possession soccer the rest of the night. We had a couple more really good looks at goal and Toby came up with two phenomenal saves to preserve the win.”

Burge's crew improves to 2-3-1 while the loss drops the Saints to 2-2-2 and marks just the second time this year they have been held scoreless.

Huntington finished with ten shots on the night with three on frame while their hosts collected 17, seven of which were on target.

"The girls have worked extremely hard the last month learning a new style of play, meeting new teammates and rising above uncommon trials to culminate a hard fought win," said Burge. "Everyday we set foot on the pitch we continue to put more and more pieces of this new puzzle together and tonight things simply clicked. I couldn't be more proud of these ladies' relentless drive!"

After playing their first six games on the road, the Foresters finally return to the friendly confines of King Stadium for their home opener on Thursday against Indiana Tech at 5:00 p.m.
