HUNTINGTON, Ind. - The Lancers of Grace College played spoiler to HU’s homecoming by sweeping the Forester volleyball team (-18, -21, -24) Friday night at Platt Arena. It’s the Foresters’ second loss to Grace (14-9, 7-4) this season as they drop to 10-13 overall, 5-7 league play.

With six regular season CL matches remaining, Huntington is sitting in sixth but remain in the hunt for a top four finish in the final standings as just one game separates spots 4-6.

The Lancers held a lead throughout set one and most of the second set before the Foresters kept things close in the final set. The match featured 16 ties and four lead changes with 13 of those ties and three of those lead changes coming in the final set.

Coach Shondell summed it up well. “This was a match we needed to win and we didn't come out of the gate like we knew that.”

As a team, HU registered 36 kills and a .109 hitting percentage while their visitors recorded 43 kills and a .207 hitting percentage. It was another balanced attack for the Foresters with Danielle Gurwell finishing with a team-high eight kills. Josie Beaver and Haley Longley tallied seven kills apiece while Lauren Cresse added six.

Jenna Tacosik spearheaded the offense by handing out 31 assists. Kate Cobb posted 20 digs. Ariene Butler and Mikayla Carpenter collected 13 digs each.

“We're trying new things and having some growing pains with that, but need to limit our errors a lot more,” said Shondell.

The Foresters head to Goshen on Wednesday for a 7:00 p.m. clash with the Maple Leafs.
