SOUTHFIELD, Mich. – Playing their second game in less than 24 hours, the Huntington women’s soccer team dropped a 3-0 decision to Lawrence Tech (3-0) Wednesday afternoon on LTU’s new turf field.

The Blue Devils wasted little time picking apart HU’s defense for two goals within the opening 24 minutes to jet out in front 2-0. Their pressure was consistent as they finished the day with 32 shots, 18 of which were on goal, to keep HU junior keeper Toby Carman busy. The Leo native finished with 15 saves and gave up LTU’s final goal in the 68th minute to make for the 3-0 final.

The Foresters tallied nine shots with Lawrence Tech keeper Heather Derstine grabbing five saves for the shutout. Brandi Spear and Tessy Geiss each took two shots for Coach Burge’s crew.

“Unfortunately we came out a little flat today and were missing a few players due to schedule requirements on campus and untimely injury,” said Burge. “However, I was very pleased with the way the girls stuck together as a unit and battled hard.”

HU drops to 0-1-1 on the year. They hit the road to Michigan again next weekend to face Madonna University on Friday at 2:00 p.m. before squaring off against Marygrove College on Saturday at noon.

The Huntington University Foresters compete in 17 intercollegiate sports for men and women. In the past decade, Huntington has produced 38 NAIA All-America honors and 254 All-America Scholar Athlete honors. Huntington University is a comprehensive Christian college of the liberal arts offering graduate and undergraduate programs in more than 70 academic concentrations.
