HUNTINGTON, Ind. - The HU women’s tennis team (1-1, 0-1) couldn’t overcome an early deficit to suffer a 6-3 loss to Marian University (1-0, 1-0) Wednesday afternoon at Klopfenstein Courts.

HU’s only win in doubles action came at the #1 spot where Constanze Golz and Meg Dolde cruised to an 8-2 decision over Elise Betscher and Maria Angela Sunga as Huntington headed into singles play down 2-1.

Golz earned a second point for her team by topping Betscher at #1 singles in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2. Charlotte Seth was the Foresters’ only other W at #4 singles where she got the best of Anne Taylor 6-4, 6-3.

“Today was a learning experience for our freshmen,” said Coach Ferguson. “Marian is a solid, veteran team with good players up and down their line-up. Now our young players know what it takes to win in our conference.”

The Knights finished second in the league last year and return seven from that squad.

The Foresters hit the road tomorrow to take on Defiance at 4:00 p.m.
