HUNTINGTON, Ind. – The HU women’s golf program and head coach Pete Schownir have announced the signing of Terre Haute South High School standout Alexandria Maris.
Maris, a four-year varsity player for the Braves, qualified as an individual for the IHSAA State Girls Finals this past fall. She also tied for second at sectionals and boasts two All-Conference badges during her time in red and black. She earned medalist honors in five dual matches in her final campaign.
The Terre Haute native has also enjoyed success in the classroom as a 2016 Academic All-State Honorable Mention pick. Maris plans to study math education at Huntington in the fall.
“Ever since I walked on campus for the first time I felt as though I was at home,” said Maris. “The Christian atmosphere was like none other. Class sizes where exactly what I was looking for and as for golf, well, that was perfect too. After getting home from my first visit I could not tell you why I wouldn't attend HU.”
Coach Schownir is equally excited for Maris to join his Forester program. “Alexandria is a hard worker in the classroom and with her golf game. She has a great opportunity to contribute to the team’s rapid improvement next fall.”
