Music Department to present a Concert of Sacred Music

HUNTINGTON, IN -- A Concert of Sacred Music will be presented by the Huntington College Music Department on Monday, October 16. The performance will take place at Saint Peter Lutheran Church at 648 N. Lafontaine St., in Huntington at 7 p.m. The concert is free and open to the public.

The program will feature HC's Brass Ensemble and vocalists from Collegium Musicium. They will perform "Thou Prince of Life, O Christ Our Lord" by Bach and "Magnificat" by Pachelbel. Keith Whitford will play J. Clarke's "Trumpet Voluntary," accompanied by Bonnie Stephan on the organ.

Other selections include "Immortal, Invisible, God Only Wise," "Praise to the Lord, The Almighty" and "Lift High the Cross." The Brass Ensemble will also perform Pezel's "Sonata No. 22" and accompany the chorale for "A Mighty Fortress is Our God." Mary Oberle Hubley's "Lead, Kindly Light" will be performed by Bonnie Stephan and the Reverend Allen Goebbert, pastor of the Lutheran Church.

Huntington College Chamber Strings will provide prelude music and accompaniment throughout the concert.


About our Soloist:


Bonnie Stephan holds a Bachelor of Music degree in organ and vocal music from Indiana University and a master of Music degree in vocal performance from Ball State University.

While at IU she was the winner of the American Guild of Organists state competition. She has presented numerous organ recitals throughout Indiana, Ohio, and Illinois.

Besides her organ work, she has performed lead roles in ten major operas and has done extensive concert and oratorio work in voice. She also spent one season at the Wagon Wheel Playhouse in Warsaw, Indiana, where she appeared in numerous musicals.

She has taught voice at Ball State University and voice, organ and piano at Huntington College. She presently serves as soloist and organist at Unity Christ Church in Fort Wayne. She teaches voice and related classes at Huntington College in addition to offering private lessons.
