Myers to serve as Worship Leadership Instructor

Huntington, Ind. "Robert Myers has been appointed as Huntington University's new Instructor in Worship Leadership. Most recently, he served as pastor of worship at Central Baptist Church in Sioux City, Iowa. Worship Leadership is one of seven new academic programs initiated at Huntington in 2004. As part of both the Music and Ministry & Missions departments at Huntington University, the Worship Leadership program offers a unique combination of ministry leadership training and specialized skill development in areas such as music, multimedia and theatre.

"Huntington's new degree program in worship leadership is in response to the dynamic challenges in Christian worship today, Myers said. Change has been the name of the game' for the last 30 years. By housing the program in the ministry department, Huntington's graduates will have the pastoral, technical and musical expertise and experience to lead the Church in spiritual formation through worship. The University has demonstrated foresight and creativity in shaping this new program. I am thrilled at the invitation to lead the charge."

Myers holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music from Biola University in California. He also has a Master of Music in Choral Conducting from California State University and is currently a doctoral candidate at The Institute for Worship Studies in Orange Park, Fla.

Myers has experience as a pastor of worship at three different churches, most recently Central Baptist Church. As a pastor there since 1997, Myers planned and led both traditional and contemporary worship, oversaw various vocal and instrumental ensembles, taught classes on worship, and instituted the Living Christmas Tree, a program attended by over 6,000 people each year. In 2004, he also instituted Soli Deo Gloria, an annual classical choral concert to be performed from a devotional perspective.

In addition to pastoral ministry, Myers has teaching experience both as a college adjunct at Northwestern College in Orange City, Iowa, and as an elementary teacher. He has also been a director of arts and music specialist at various Christian schools. Myers' professional service includes serving as worship leader for a Promise Keeper gathering, worship leader for the International Center for Biblical Counseling Biennial Conference, and as Chairman for several Association of Christian Schools International children's choral festivals in Orange County, Calif.
