Noble named director of HU’s Centre for Non-Western Studies

HUNTINGTON, Ind. Dr. John Noble has been named the director of the Centre for Non-Western Studies at Huntington University. Noble replaces Dr. Tim Smith who will be taking a sabbatical next semester to conduct research for his new book. The Centre for Non-Western Studies was established in 2009 to highlight and support inter-disciplinary research and teaching through a shared interest in non-western politics, culture and society. The Centre brings together a number of renowned Huntington faculty in the fields of Bible and religion, business, English, history and political science, ministry, TESOL, social work and sociology.
"Huntington University has a strong tradition of non-western teaching and research as a liberal arts institution," Smith said. "Under Dr. Noble's leadership, the Centre will continue to develop and enable students to become more dynamic, intercultural consumers for their generation."
Noble joined the university in 2012 as an assistant professor of Bible and religion. He holds MDiv and MA degrees from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary, and a BA from Taylor University. He also holds a PhD in Near Eastern Languages and Civilizations from Harvard University.
