FORT WAYNE, Ind. – HU freshman Abby Poole tied for first at the University of Saint Francis Spring Invitational to guide her team to an 8th place finish out of ten teams. The weekend tournament turned into a one-day event as snow and wind forced Saturday’s round at Autumn Ridge to be cancelled after four holes.

Poole shot a six-over-par 78 on Friday at Cherry Hill Golf Club to sit atop the leaderboard along with two other golfers. Her finish would stand as Saturday’s scores were not included to force a scoreboard playoff where she placed third.

Sophie Frazier shot a 97 to finish 32nd and finishing five strokes behind her was Hannah Lochner with a 102. Sara Scott and Alex Rocha each posted a 114 to tie for 46th.

“We have definitely been making progress from last fall,” noted Coach Schownir. “Abby Poole turned in a solid round in a cold rain that lasted the first nine holes. She started her round three over par after two holes and played the last 16 holes three over.

“Sophie Frazier shot 42 over her last nine holes and has shown a lot of improvement this spring.”

Olivet Nazarene won the women’s title with a 33-over-par 321 followed by St. Francis (IL) (335), Indiana Wesleyan (335), Saint Francis (347), Taylor (354), Grace (380), Mount Vernon (384), HU (391), Jackson CC (397) and Judson (447).

Next up for the Foresters is the Broadmoor Spring Invitational hosted by Marian University on April 4-5.
