Schownir, Stehlik appointed major gift directors

Huntington, Ind. " Peter Schownir and Randall Stehlik recently accepted appointment as directors of major gifts in the Huntington College Advancement Office. They will be primarily responsible for the cultivation and solicitation of major support for the annual fund, capital projects, and other special efforts consistent with the focus and strategic direction of the College.

Peter Schownir graduated with a Broadcast Journalism degree and with a Marketing minor from Ball State University. In the past 16 years, Schownir has been responsible for advertising sales with six periodicals at Our Sunday Visitor in Huntington. While at Our Sunday Visitor, Schownir was responsible for establishing and implementing policies, budgets, and forecasting for a department of five. He accomplished annual sales increases in most years, despite a declining circulation environment, by utilizing an innovative and common sense approach to advertising programs.

Prior to his work at Our Sunday Visitor, Schownir spent four years as an Assistant Advertising Director for GolfWeek Magazine in Winter Haven, Fla. Schownir is also Huntington College's head golf coach.

Having been in the advertising field for over 21 years, Schownir has spoken on various occasions at the National Catholic Development Conference. His topics included utilizing and evaluating results of advertising for fundraising.

Schownir is involved in the community in a number of ways including membership with both the Huntington Optimists Club and the Huntington County Leadership Board of Directors. Schownir also used his talents as a Huntington County United Way Marketing Committee Volunteer.

I can't think of a better investment to make than in Christian higher education, said Schownir. I feel blessed to be able to connect with alumni, parents, and friends of Huntington College.


Randall Stehlik graduated from the University of Notre Dame with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and subsequently attained a Master of Arts and Teaching Degree from Duke University. While at Notre Dame, Stehlik was a highly successful tennis athlete, and during his senior year he received the Byron V. Kinaley Award, the most prestigious honor awarded to a Notre Dame student-athlete.

His professional career includes thirteen years as an investment representative and a senior investment consultant with several national brokerage firms, serving an individual and family-based clientele. As a trust officer with two regional banks, including the former Lincoln National Bank & Trust Co. which is now part of Wells Fargo, Stehlik spent three years successfully developing personal trust and investment management relationships. Prior to joining Huntington College, he spent six years at Lincoln National Life Insurance Co. providing administrative services to employer sponsored retirement plans. During his role as a Senior Client Consultant, he served as the company's primary customer service contact for a $75 million retirement plan of a 13 hospital organization.

Stehlik has been recognized in the business world and in the community. Blending his professional skills and personal passion for tennis, he has served on the Players' Social Events Committee for the RCA Professional Tennis Championships in Indianapolis. Stehlik is also a Past President and board member for both the Three Rivers Montessori School and the Notre Dame Club of Fort Wayne.

Throughout most of my education, I was blessed by Christian-based teaching, said Stehlik. Now I have the privilege of sharing about the remarkable benefits of a Huntington College education with people interested in supporting the College, now and in the future.
