DEFIANCE, Ohio - Several members of the Forester track and field team turned in personal best performances at the Defiance College Open Friday night at the George M. Smart Athletic Center.

Christiana Hicks bettered her best in the 200 meters by posting a 25.97 for her team’s only first place finish. She also claimed 3rd in the 60 meters with her time of 7.91.

While not her typical event, Christine Sparks had a PR performance in the 400 meters by clocking in at 1:03.19 to finish 3rd. Her time will also go down as the 7th fastest time in HU history. Kate Capkovitz crossed the line next in a personal best time of 1:03.69.

Michelle Kelsey established a new PR in high jump with her leap of 1.47 meters to claim 4th on Friday and 8th in the Forester record books. Samantha McCoy ran her best race to date in the 200 meters by posting a time of 27.49 good for 5th.

Other top seven finishes included Mariah Harter in the 60 meters (4th, 8.05), McCoy in the 60 meters (6th, 8.23), Rachael Smelser in the 800 meters (7th, 2:41.56), Krista Wood in the mile (7th, 5:46.97) and Jean Donaldson in the weight throw (5th, 13.92 meters).

The 4x400 meter relay team claimed 2nd in 4:24.79.  

On the men’s side, Jake Nash claimed Huntington’s only top finish with his mark of 1.98 meters in high jump. Michael Bowman posted a PR in the 800 meters by crossing the line in 2:00.45 for 4th place.

Phil Holliday (53.48) and Chris Reed (53.68) finished 6th and 7th respectively in the 400 meters. The Foresters had two teams compete in the 4x400 meter relay where they finished 2nd (3:38.38) and 3rd (3:47.50).  

The Foresters are back in action on Saturday to compete in the DePauw University Classic.
