HUNTINGTON, Ind. – Huntington University athletic director Lori Culler has announced that Rick Sholund will be taking over the HU women’s golf program as the interim coach. Sholund, currently in his second year as the Forester men’s golf coach, replaces Pete Schownir as the HU women’s skipper.

“Coach Schownir started and led a great program,” said Sholund. “I am honored and blessed to succeed him as the coach of the women’s golf team. I am looking forward to the challenge of leading both teams.

“As a coaching staff, we are excited about the players and talent on the roster and those who are joining us in the fall. Wea re ready to compete.”

Culler is excited to see where Sholund takes the Forester Golf Program. “We are pleased to have Rick take the reins of both our golf programs. We see tremendous benefits in combining the two programs under his leadership. He brings a wealth of knowledge and golf experience that will elevate the level of play of both squads. Both programs have a bright future with Rick at the helm.”

In addition to his coaching role at Huntington, Sholund also serves as the owner and lead instructor of the Praxis Performance Coaching where he provides golf instruction and training to over 80 clients in team and individual settings. He utilizes FMS assessments and customized TPI workouts to assess and improve flexibility, strength, power and endurance and taps into high-speed 3D video analysis and launch monitors to guide his instruction.

Additionally, Sholund has nearly three years of experience as a former director of operations at an area golf facility and nearly four years of experience as a self-employed golf instructor/coach.

Sholund also spent ten years as a professional golfer. His accomplishments as a pro include finishing seventh in the Indiana State Open in 1998 and third in 1999. He also qualified for the Nike Tour St. Louis Classic in 1998 and competed in the PGA Tour Qualifying Tournament from 2000 to 2002. He played on the Dakotas Tour and in several NGA Pro Golf Tour events as well as many other mini-tours.

Sholund is a Titleist Performance Institute (TPI) certified Level 2 Power Coach and certified Level 2 Junior Coach with a FMS certification in movement. He also holds a Level 1 certification in K-Vest 3D Technologies.

The Huntington University Foresters compete in 16 intercollegiate sports for men and women.
