HUNTINGTON, Ind. – The HU women’s tennis team has inked its first 2017-18 recruit with the signing of Plymouth High School standout Lanae Singleton.

Singleton has been recognized by the United States Tennis Association (USTA) as the top player in northern Indiana girls 18s. She is also currently ranked #130 in the Midwest and #695 nationally.

The blue chipper was the Pilgrims’ No. 1 player last year where she went 19-7 and for her efforts earned team MVP honors. As a sophomore she played at the No. 2 spot and piled up 17 wins against eight losses. With her senior season still to come, the two-time All-State Honorable Mention, All-District and All-Conference pick also boasts an NLC championship and a sectional championship.

Outside of high school tennis, Singleton has played in 15 different USTA tournaments this year alone. She won her consolation finals match at the NIN Midwest Qualifier to earn a bid to the USTA Level 1 Outdoor Closed Championships last June. She also claimed the LaPorte Junior Open championship. In October, she won the title at the Riverview Junior Championships in Michigan and just recently won the Wildwood Holiday Open USTA Tournament.

“I chose Huntington because it is a Christian school, it has a country feel and it has a good tennis team that seems very close knit,” said Singleton. “HU just felt like the right place for me academically, athletically and spirituality.”

HU Coach Ferguson is equally excited for Singleton to join his squad. “I am extremely pleased that Lanae has chosen HU as the place to continue her education and tennis career.

“Lanae works hard in the classroom and on the courts and will be a great addition to the HU community.”

Lanae is the daughter of Lana and Lance Singleton of Plymouth, Ind.

The Huntington University Foresters compete in 17 intercollegiate sports for men and women.
