Student named EPA scholarship recipient

Meeting in Dallas, Texas, May 4, the EPA board voted to award scholarships to Dara Fennell of Indiana University of Pennsylvania, Ashleigh Dean of John Brown University, and Mandy Kent of Huntington University.
Fennell, who anticipates a career in Christian publishing and magazines, has served as editor-in-chief for The Inkwell, a journal of social sciences, and for The Endnote, a student history journal. Professor Christopher Kuipers called her "a model student and an intellect who tracks all the textual details down." She will receive a $1,000 scholarship from EPA.
Dean, a journalism major who has worked as a staff writer and advertising director for the JBU student newspaper Threefold Advocate, received a $500 scholarship. Her advisor, former EPA Executive Director Gary Warner, says, "She'll make her mark as a professional in the craft."
Kent, a Huntington University student pursuing a public relations major with a journalism minor, will serve as editor-in-chief of The Huntingtonian next year. Her advisor, Dr. Kevin Miller, formerly with Christianity Today, says, "She has proven outstanding among my journalism students in her ablity to combine the reporting skills of observation, interviewing and background research into highly readable, accurate articles." Kent will receive a $500 scholarship from EPA.
