Students Attend Faith and Writing Festival
HUNTINGTON, IN: Tuesday, April 16, 1996 -- Four Huntington College students attended the Festival of Faith and Writing at Calvin College April 11-13.
The Festival of Faith and Writing is a major gathering of scholars and creative writers who share a sense of the centrality of the Christian faith to their work.
Contemporary writers such as Madeline L'Engle, Annie Dillard, Donald Hall, Luci Shaw, and Dan Wakefield offered lectures, roundtable discussions, and workshops. A wide variety of publishers, professors, and students participated in the event.
Huntington College students who attended the festival include:
- Mary Jo Cooper, a sophomore majoring in English. She is the daughter of Bruce and Deborah Cooper of Manistique, Michigan.
- Sara Kimlick, a senior majoring in English education. She is the daughter of Janet Kimlick of New Paris.
- Luke Simonich, a senior pursuing a double major in English and theatre.
- Sam Ward, a junior pursuing a double major in English and theatre. He is the son of Paul and Lois Ward of Darlington, Pennsylvania.
The students were accompanied to the scholarly festival by Dr. Joe Ricke, associate professor of English at Huntington College. Ricke presented a paper entitled, "Gerard Manley Hopkins and the Poetics of Sainthood."
