Huntington, Ind. — Huntington University’s G. Blair Dowden and Jim O’Donnell will lead a roundtable discussion on “Taking Risks” during the Visiting Executive Seminar from 8:45 a.m. to noon on Oct. 29 in the Habecker Dining Commons on campus.
The seminar, led by O’Donnell, Luke J. Peters Professor of Business and executive-in-residence, and Dowden, president of the university, brings together business leaders and Huntington University business students to discuss important issues in today’s business world.
“Risk is a central, if very poorly understood, part of every life,” O’Donnell said. “There are people who try to live never taking risks. But such is impossible. For life is filled with risks.”
As a launching pad for the discussion, attendees will examine two articles on the oil disaster in the Gulf
of Mexico. The articles are “Blowouts Will Not Always Be Prevented: We are curiously unwilling to acknowledge known risks” and “The ‘Paralyzing’ Principle: The Gulf disaster rehabilitates a discredited idea,” both from The Wall Street Journal.
