Communication students earn awards at IASB Competition

Huntington, Ind.— Seven Huntington College students recently received communication awards from the Indiana Association of Student Broadcasters (IASB) Competition. Dr. Lance Clark’s students enter various projects into this state awards contest, and matched up well with the big and small colleges in Indiana.

“I am so proud of what our students have accomplished this past year in regards to media,” Dr. Lance Clark said. “Winning several awards in the IASB college division demonstrates our commitment to excellence in both content and form. This is the second year we have won awards in this competition.”

In the news division Huntington College Television received second place, with Kathryn Nix and Michael Szapkiw receiving third place in the Television News Package category. Michael Szapkiw also attained first place in the Radio Spot Production category, and got a second place award in the Radio Public Affairs category.

Michelle Saylor, Beth Hurley, and Ashley Fox brought in a third place prize with their Television Music Video, and this trio placed first with their Bucksot. Saylor also won the Radio Public Affairs category.

“I really like entering my work into competitions,” Senior Kathryn Nix said. “It helps me judge how well my projects compare to other schools, and shows me areas I am doing well in and also where I can improve.”

The Huntington College communications department has many outlets for students to gain experience for their desired major. Students can work with Huntington College Television (the college news show), the Fuse FM (the college radio station), the yearbook, or the Huntingtonian (the student run newspaper). These are all offered to students to help aid them in their future careers.
