Music Department offers Sounds of Spring

Ensembles perform in celebration of winter’s passing
Huntington, Ind.—In a celebration of winter’s passing, the Huntington College Music Department will offer Sounds of Spring, a concert including various ensembles in a melodious menagerie of music for spring. An enchanting evening of light favorites will be held on Friday, April 5, 2002, at 7 p.m., in the Merillat Centre for the Arts.

The concert will feature the Huntington College Concert Choir and Women’s Chorale, both directed by Dr. George Killian, the Wind Ensemble, conducted by Dr. Marlene Schleiffer, and the Handbell Choir, directed by Darlene Burkett. The Concert Choir will perform René Clausen’s Oh, My Luve’s Like a Red, Red Rose, and John Rutter’s Dashing Away With the Smoothing Iron. The men of the Concert Choir will sing Edvard Grieg’s Brothers, Sing On. The women of the Concert Choir will join with the Women’s Chorale in James Mulholland’s Heart We Will Forget Him. The Women’s Chorale will also perform Randall Thompson’s A Girl’s Garden, George and Ira Gershwin’s Someone to Watch Over Me, and John Leavitt’s Old Dan Tucker. The Wind Ensemble will play George Gates’ Sol Y Sombra, Gabriel Fauré’s Dolly Suite, Op. 56, Artie Shaw’s Concerto for Clarinet, and Alfred Reed’s Candombe. The Handbell Choir will perform Wade in the Water, an arrangement by Sondra Tucker, Just a Closer Walk with Thee, and arrangement by Bruce Geer, and Come, Thou Fount of Every Blessing, an arrangement by Cynthia Dobrinski.
