Davenport, Sheckler named Forester Athletes of Week

Huntington, Ind.—The Huntington University Athletic Department announced its Athletes of the Week for the week of February 18-24, 2008. Women’s basketball junior Lauren Davenport and men’s basketball senior Doug Sheckler earned the honor for the week.

Lauren Davenport, an exercise science major from Andrews, Ind. (Huntington North High School) averaged 16.5 points on 59 percent shooting, including 2-3 from behind the arc and 9-11 at the line in Huntington’s two games this week. Davenport also was a Mid-Central Conference Second Team All-Conference selection. The Foresters (16-12) enters post-season play on Feb. 26 when they host Marian College in opening round action at 7 p.m.

Doug Sheckler
Doug Sheckler, an elementary education major from Columbia City, Ind. (Columbia City High School), became the fifth Forester to be named the Mid-Central Conference Player of the Year. This is the eighth time a Forester has earned the honor. Sheckler averaged 18.2 points and 7.3 rebounds per game during the season and increased his output to 20.9 points and 8.3 boards in conference play. Huntington (21-9) will open play in the MCC tournament on Feb. 27 at home against Spring Arbor University at 7 p.m.
