The Foresters picked up their first win of the spring edging Grace College 5-4. HC had three double winners on the day. Jessica Deter and Katie Sprunger teamed for the 8-4 win at #2 doubles, and then both added 6-2, 6-2 wins in singles, Deter at #2 and Sprunger at #6. Dawn Lauer also picked up two wins in the match. In doubles' play, Lauer and Rachael Boersma won 8-3 at #3, and in singles, Lauer rallied for the win after dropping the first set at #4. She won the second set 6-0 then won a super tie-breaker 11-9 for the third set. In the tie-breaker, she trailed 9-6, and then won the next five points to earn the victory. “I thought we played about as well as we could,” said Coach Gary Turner. “We kept the ball in play and didn’t make many mistakes. They had better strokes than we did, but I felt we played a better mental game.” With the win, the Foresters now stand at 5-10 on the year.
