Foresters back in the win column

Hungry to get back in the win column, the Foresters got things rolling right from tip-off in the consolation game of the Viterbo University NAIA Showcase to cruise to a 76-66 win over Mayville State University.

Ninety seconds into the contest the Foresters took a 5-3 lead that they would never give up. Sarah Miller hit her first six shots to provide HU’s first half offensive firepower. The Foresters shot 61.5% from the field (16-26) and committed only seven turnovers in the first half against the Comets’ aggressive defense to take a 43-32 lead at intermission.

The second half started with Courtney Beerbower taking over the offensive reigns as she scored HU’s first twelve points to put the Foresters up 55-39 at the 14:21 mark. The Foresters continued to dominate the Comets over the next six minutes with their largest lead of 68-44 coming with just over eight minutes left in the contest. However, the Comets weren’t ready to throw in the towel as they notched it up on the offensive end but the Foresters weren’t ready to match their intensity defensively. Mayville outscored HU 20-8 but it wouldn’t be enough as the Foresters hung on for the ten point win.

Named to the All-Tournament team, Miller led all scorers with 21 points. Beerbower chipped in 17 points and a team-high six rebounds while Haleigh Osborne provided some quality minutes in the paint to finish with 10 points. Lauren Meese led the team in assists with seven. Laura Taylor paced the Comets with 15 points. Lindsay Sannes finished with a game-high ten rebounds. The Foresters shot the ball well at 52.8% (28-53) while the Comets were just 20-49 for 40.8%.
