Foresters drop two in tourney

The Foresters headed to Illinois for a weekend tournament at Judson University and dropped both matches.
HU played the host Eagles on Friday evening and fell 1-0 on a penalty kick in the 37th minute of the first half. In the second half, Judson played a man down for the entire 45 minutes, but the Foresters failed to take advantage. Kevin Keske had six saves in the match.

"For the first time this year, we lost our composure and with it, our energy," said Coach Lawson. "Judson was solid across the back and they had a few players who were fantastic on the ball enabling them to spread us out. Kevin played well in goal for us once again making a few key saves to keep the match close."

With the loss, HU was scheduled to meet Notre Dame College (OH) in the consolation game on Saturday, but weather and field conditions were too bad to get the game in. However, since both teams were headed back east, they stopped and played the match at HU Saturday evening. The NAIA 11th-ranked Falcons took it to the Foresters 5-1.

Notre Dame scored twice before HU put one on the board. Steven Roberts took a pass from Kyle Brohm and put it in the back of the net at the 26:16 mark. The Falcons added one more to make it 3-1 at intermission.

Notre Dame put the game out of reach with another goal in the 56th minute and then the Foresters gave up an own goal seven minutes later for the 5-1 final.

"Notre Dame was definitely one of the strongest teams we have faced in recent years," said Coach Lawson. "Their touch and the pace in which they moved the ball was first class. We had moments where we were able to hold and move the ball generating 11 shots in and around the box. The disappointing part of this weekend is that we did not play the full 90 minutes in either game. On the positive side, we got a glimpse of what it takes to play at the national level."

With the two losses, HU falls to 1-4-1 on the season.
