After dropping game one 3-1 to the St. Francis Cougars, the Foresters avoided the sweep with a come-from-behind 3-2 win in the nightcap.
In game one, HU's lone run came on a solo homerun by Andrew Drummond in the second inning. The Cougars evened the score in the bottom of the fourth and then put the game away with a pair of runs in the sixth. The Foresters tried to rally in the seventh, but ended up stranding the tying runs on second and third.
Michael Dalton (4-2) took the loss for HU. He went five and two-thirds innings and allowed three runs on 11 hits while striking out four. Alex Rinearson went 2-3 at the plate to lead the Foresters.
In the nightcap, St. Francis plated one in the first and third to take a 2-0 lead. In the top of the fourth, HU's Korey Grow scored from third when Drummond grounded into a double play. In the Foresters' next at-bat, Travis Frantz got a leadoff double and was moved to third on a sacrifice bunt by Eric Harpring. Austan Kas then knocked him in on a sac fly to deep right-center.
HU then got the eventual gamewinner in the top of the sixth. Rinearson doubled to the gap in left-center with one out in the inning. Adam Farris moved him over when he grounded out to second, and then Drummond got the clutch two-out single through the hole at shortstop to drive in the go-ahead run. The Foresters' starting pitcher, Drew Taylor, worked around a misplayed ball to open the bottom of the sixth and then retired the Cougars in order in the seventh to get the hard-fought win.
Taylor (2-3) finished the game allowing two runs on five hits and two walks while striking out four. Rinearson and Drummond both had two hits in the game to pace HU's offense.
With the split, HU moves to 12-7 overall and 7-1 in the MCC.
