The Foresters had two matches over the weekend and picked up a pair of victories. On Friday, HU knocked off Taylor University Fort Wayne 25-17, 25-14, 18-25, 25-17 and on Saturday downed Anderson University 24-26, 25-22, 25-12, 25-19.
Against Taylor Fort Wayne, the Foresters dominated three of the four games. "This match gave us an opportunity to work on some new ideas and plays," said Coach Schroeder. "With the exception of game three, everything went pretty well."
Brittney Smelser led the team with 25 kills and 17 digs in the match. Alyssa Schroeder tallied 41 assists, seven aces and two blocks.
On Saturday, HU got off to a slow start, but improvement in the passing game helped them get back on track after dropping the first game. "Midway through game two, our passing finally picked up and we played well the rest of the match," said Coach Schroeder. "Anderson is very scrappy defensively, but we did a good job of staying aggressive with our offense."
Smelser again topped the Forester hitters with 20 kills. Krista Spearman had a team-high six blocks. Schroeder dished out 43 assists and had four aces and Chelsey Melvin led the team with 16 digs.
The two wins move the Foresters to 14-11 on the season.
