HU snags MCC win over Pilots

Huntington, Ind. - Hosting back-to-back MCC contests over the weekend, the Forester volleyball team dropped a 3-1 decision to Goshen College Friday night before bouncing back to claim their first conference win of the season with a 3-0 sweep over the Pilots of Bethel College on Saturday.

On Friday, the Foresters kept things close but eventually succumbed to the Maple Leafs in four sets, 25-20, 25-19, 20-25, 25-18. Melissa Grossman led the Forester charge with seven kills and a .400 hitting percentage. Heather Medich and Kaylee Searles also made their presence known at the net with six kills apiece. Jensen Carnahan turned in an overall solid performance with 24 assists, seven digs, four kills, two aces and two blocks.

HU came out firing on all cylinders on Saturday to dominate the Pilots from start to finish with a 3-0 win, 25-18, 26-24, 25-22. The team finished with eight serving aces to only seven serving errors and enjoyed an overall hitting percentage of .225. Brittany Rooze led a balanced attack with nine kills while Grossman and Rebekah Brown each tallied eight kills on the afternoon. Medich and Kaylee Searles also did their part by recording seven kills apiece in the winning effort. Guiding the offense was Carnahan with 38 assists.

HU moves to 6-18 on the season, 1-12 in MCC play. They are back in action on Wednesday to face Indiana Wesleyan at 7:00 p.m.
