HU takes two on the chin this weekend

SPRING ARBOR, Mich. - It was a tough weekend for the Forester volleyball team as they dropped a pair of conference matches to Saint Francis and Spring Arbor. After beating USF last weekend at a tourney in Illinois, the Cougars got sweet revenge by sweeping HU in straight sets, 25-20, 25-22, 25-19, Friday night.

It was an evenly matched contest in several statistical categories against USF as both teams finished with six team blocks and just as many serving errors but the different came by way of offensive prowess where the Cougars dominated HU in kills 46-28 which proved to be the difference in the contest.

Melissa Grossman led HU at the net with 8 kills and one solo block while teammates Hillary Pulse and Abbey Keister finished with six and five kills respectively. Jensen Carnahan dished out 25 assists. Codie Morey had a team-high 10 digs.

Less than 24 hours later, Huntington traveled to Spring Arbor where they opened up play by winning the first two sets but couldn’t hang on as SAU mounted a furious comeback to win the next three and claim the five set victory, 19-25, 18-25, 25-21, 25-23, 15-8.

Grossman again led the Forester attack with 15 kills. Heather Medich also logged double digit kills with 10. Carnahan finished with 41 assists and 17 digs while Katie DePew added a team-high 24 digs. Kelsey Kruse paced HU from behind the line with three aces.
