Hot bats lead HU over Wildcats

Returning to the friendly confines of Forester Glen, the Huntington baseball team (19-17, 10-8) grabbed a 5-2 come-from-behind win in game one against Indiana Wesleyan and then pounced on the Wildcats early in the nightcap to claim the 10-1 blowout.

Heading into the bottom of the fifth, the Foresters found themselves down 2-0 but finally came alive when Ryan Shell was hit by a pitch. Andrew Drummond followed up with an RBI-double as HU rallied to plate two more runs in the inning to go up 3-2. Shell then put the exclamation point on the day when he smashed a two-run homer over the left field fence in the sixth to give the Foresters a little more breathing room as they held the Wildcats scoreless in their last at-bats to close out the game.

Mitch Bowers picked up his sixth win of the season allowing two runs, one earned, on five hits and no walks while striking out seven. Nine different Foresters connected for a hit. Shell finished with two RBI.

The Foresters wasted no time getting on the board in the nightcap as they took advantage of a Wildcat error and cranked out six hits to score four runs in the bottom of the first. Eric Schultz opened play with a double to center and then RBI-singles by Shell, Drummond and Jamon Hammel accounted for HU's first inning runs as it would prove more than enough for the win. The Foresters plated another run in the third and added three more in the fifth. This time it was Frantz who opened the inning with a double and scored when Justin Branock singled to center. Jamon Hammel then tacked on another two runs with his RBI-single as the Foresters took a comfortable 8-1 lead. They would add two more insurance runs in the sixth.

Ethan Tribolet picked up the win for the Foresters. In six innings of work he gave up one run on five hits and no walks while striking out eight. Branock and Jarod Hammel were perfect from the plate going 3-for-3 and 4-for-4 respectively. Jamon Hammel had a game-high four RBI.
