Merryman named NAIA Scholar Athlete

HUNTINGTON, Ind. – The National Association of the Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) announced today its 2013-14 Men’s Basketball Division II Daktronics Scholar-Athletes and among the list of honorees is Huntington University senior Shane Merryman.

Merryman, a two-time Scholar-Athlete recipient, hails from Fort Wayne, Ind. (Carroll HS) and was one of 134 players from around the country selected for this award. He will graduate in May with a degree in physical education.

In order to be nominated by an institution’s head coach or sports information director, a student-athlete must maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale and must have achieved a junior academic status.
The Huntington University Foresters compete in 16 intercollegiate sports for men and women. In the past decade, Huntington has produced 39 NAIA All-America honors and 213 All-America Scholar Athlete honors. Huntington University is a comprehensive Christian college of the liberal arts offering graduate and undergraduate programs in more than 70 academic concentrations.
