Three more join HU program

Huntington University men’s soccer program adds three recruits to bolster the roster for the 2007 campaign. “The expectation is that these young men will come in and impact our program from the first day of camp,” stated Coach Russ Lawson. “Dustin, Jake, and Sam will bring an intelligence and work rate that will raise the competitive level of our team.”
Sam Schoutko is a defender from Mansfield Christian High School in Ohio. He anchored the backline that posted six shutouts throughout the year while capturing the OHSAA Div. III sectional and district titles. Schoutko’s high school playing career was capped off by being named to the All–District First Team and being awarded an OHSAA State Farm Scholar Athlete Certificate. “Sam’s ability to defend, read the game, and organize will serve him well as a marking back,” said Lawson. Schoutko will study mission ministries as a Forester.

As a striker and midfielder, Jake Rose was a four time All-Conference Player at Lakewood Park Christian High School in Indiana. He finished sixth in the state his senior season in scoring by putting 24 in the back of the net. Not only can he finish, Rose amassed 11 assists to earn himself the Midwest Athletic Conference Player of the Year honor last year. “We will look for Jake’s size and speed to allow him to hold up the ball and get in behind defenses when need be,” commented Lawson. Rose will pursue a physical education degree at HU.

Dustin Woods is a striker who is tenacious, strong in the air and known for capitalizing on his opportunities. Woods played his high school career at Noblesville where he tallied 10 goals and four assists to help capture a sectional title his senior season. Whether it was playing in the Great Midwest Classic for Noblesville or playing his club ball for Carmel United, Woods has played with and against some of the top players in the Midwest. “The combination of Dustin’s skill and experience will enable him to make a smooth transition to the college game,” said Lawson. Woods is currently undecided in his area of study.
