Winona Lake, Ind. - The Forester cross country teams ran in the Grace College Invitational where the women took first and the men finished second.
HU dominated the women’s 5K, claiming the top three spots while placing another three runners in the top ten. Leading the way was Gretchen Spahr who crossed the line in 19:58. Cendall Ogle finished second in 20:15 and not far behind was Krystal McHenry who ran to a 20:17 third place finish.
Natalie Spahr claimed the sixth spot with her time of 21:00 while Erin Rockey rounded out HU’s scoring with an eighth place finish in 21:04. Miranda Boyts took tenth place honors in 21:16 and Amanda Henningfield finished 18th in 22:08.
The Foresters won the invite with 20 points followed by Trine (69), Goshen (69), Saint Francis (102) and Grace (117).
On the men’s side, Lance Wood paced the Foresters with his sixth place finish in 27:21. Two more Foresters crossed the line next with Joseph Herber running to a seventh place finish (27:25) and Alec Rosario trailing him for eighth place (27:41).
Claiming the tenth spot was Brian Menzie who finished in 28:01. Nathan Rupp ran a 28:09 to finish 12th. Josh McIntrye and Isaiah Laatsch finished 22rd (29:19) and 23rd (29:23) respectively.
Goshen took top honors in the men’s 8K with 31 points followed by HU (43), Trine (76), Grace (76) and Saint Francis (140).
“We are a pretty tired team right now from our training, but still had some nice results,” commented Coach King.
The Foresters are back in action on Friday when they compete in the Indiana Intercollegiate Championships at Indiana University.
