Burson, Smith receive March Peer Awards

Huntington, Ind.—Recipients of the Huntington University Peer Award for the month of March are Susie Burson and Martha Smith.

Amber Brown, director of urban scholarship and mentoring, passed the Peer Award to Susie Burson. Burson is assistant professor of education and has been with HU for six years.

In recognizing Burson, Brown wrote, “Susie played an integral role in the developments of the 2nd Annual Conference on Christianity, Culture and Diversity in America held on campus in the fall, in which I was able to sit on the committee she chaired for the event. Her diligence, attention to detail and excellent leadership contributed to the success of the conference. Susie also has offered me prayer and guidance on personal issues. She’s been a source of encouragement and inspiration to me. She truly has made a difference!”


Nathan Geer passes the Peer Award to Martha Smith.
Nathan Geer, area coordinator and advisor to international students, passed the Peer Award to Martha Smith. Smith is associate dean of student development/director of career development & counseling and has been with the university for 20 years. In recognizing Smith, Geer said, “Martha has served as a mentor for me this past year and has proven to be an excellent support and encouragement to me throughout my time here at Huntington. Her dedication to helping students succeed has challenged me in my work as an RD. Martha’s concern for the well-being of our students has proven a wonderful example of what it means to live a Christ-centered life vocationally as well as personally.”
