FOR RELEASE
2000-03-10
Huntington, Ind.—The Huntington College Auxiliary will hold its Spring Breakfast Saturday, March 26, at 9 a.m., in the Habecker Dining Commons. Community women are invited to hear Dr. Janice Fulbright, a professor of music at Huntington College, as she sings her way through the program, "An Opera Singer Turned Professor."

Dr. Fulbright is a contralto character actress. She has sung extensively throughout Europe, including the Opera Houses of Vienna, Linz, Zurich, Venice, Stuttgart, Marseilles, and London. She has 50 operatic character roles in her repertory, and is also known for her work in musical theatre and oratorio with over 100 roles to her credit. Dr. Fulbright has also been a regular contralto soloist with several American orchestras such as Philadelphia, Manhattan, Atlanta and Dallas and sung at numerous American opera houses. Dr. Fulbright especially enjoys Gilbert and Sullivan and has appeared in all ten of the Gilbert and Sullivan alto character roles.

Dr. Fulbright will be singing a mini-recital of some of her favorite songs in Italian, German, Russian, Hebrew and, of course, English. She will also be discussing highlights of her career in opera and her vision for the Huntington College Music Department. She will talk about her musical training, including how she teethed on the Baptist Hymnbook and at one time had as her goal being the world's greatest female band director. Dr. Fulbright will be accompanied by several Huntington College piano students, including Kimberly Dreisbach, Jay Michaud, Carrie Norris, Melissa Cole, Caleb Nei, and Neva Serraiotto. A short business meeting will also be held.

The cost of the breakfast buffet will be $5.50. Please call to make reservations by Wednesday, March 22, to Shirley Cox (356-1560), Ruth Weber (356-0255), or Barbara Fetters (672-8333).

The Huntington College Auxiliary has been a vibrant part of campus life since 1903 and is always involved in several projects to benefit students at the College. The group’s current project is to refurbish the Baker Hall main lounges with reupholstered settees and new oak furniture.
